In honor of the Super Bowl, I decided to talk about football today. As most people who probably see my Twitter feed on Sunday know, I’m a huge fan of of the Broncos. I’m from Colorado, and I’ve been cheering for them ever since I can remember. It gets a bit crazy at our house during Sunday night football, too. We do everything we can to make sure our team wins. This involves good food, a lot of jumping up and down and yelling at the TV, and nail polish.
Yep, nail polish. You read that right. So what does nail polish have to do with football? Well, a few years ago, my daughters wanted to paint their nails, but I was watching the game. I’d been writing a lot, so I hadn’t spent a lot of time with them, either, and felt bad saying no. So I got out the nail polish, and we painted our nails while we watched the game. The Broncos came from behind and won that game. The next week, we didn’t paint our nails, and we lost. So the next week, when we were behind (This was back in the Tim Tebow days, and we were behind a lot. I’m not saying this was Tim’s fault. I’m just saying…Well, this is all beside the point.) we got out the nail polish. And then we won.
Now I’ll admit, the nail polish hasn’t always worked. (I won’t get into the Super Bowl that shan’t be named.) But it gave my daughters a love for football while they were young, which is when I learned to love it, too. And as that commercial says, “It’s only weird if it doesn’t work.” So this Sunday, I’ll be at home with my family, eating a ton of good food, there will be nail painting, and there will be a whole lot of cheering for Peyton Manning & the rest of the Broncos.
Oh, & if you’e not into football, that’s okay. I hope you enjoy a day to kick back & relax, read, and/or enjoy time with family and friends. And you might as well also take advantage of the excuse to eat lots & lots of good food 🙂
